To Solve a Problem like Humanity (or lack of it)

Tue Nov 24, 2009, 9:17 AM
EDIT: Well, after considering all of your advice and my own parent's wishes, I decided not to attend the demonstration itself. However, I do know what happened. According to the local newspaper on Monday, around eighty or ninety people attended the rally itself, although 400 police officers and many more anti-fascist protesters were there. Four people were arrested and one minorly injured. So all in all, a victory for the majority of decent people in Britain, I think, although of course it would have been far better had no one been arrested or injured.

I'd like to thank you all for giving me a hand in making my decision - you all gave me thoughtful, helpful advice. :D Much appreciated.

So, a fascist, neo-nazi party is rallying in my town on Saturday.

When I found out this morning I was tempted to make a banner opposing this party and just hang out there waving it at them and peacefully protesting my opposition to their point of view.

Then I found out the school is going to suspend anyone caught making trouble at the rally, and of course, the risk of being attacked or caught in the crossfire is gonna be pretty high, seeing as the police have told shopkeepers to keep all their items indoors so they don't get hurled through windows, and they're predicting massive riots between the British Militant Party (the neo-nazis) and the people, Churches and organisations who are going to be there protesting against them.

One of my best friends has had people in her family and people she knows threatened and discriminated against by this group, and the BNP (a similar, more powerful political party - wikipedia Nick Griffin), and all because her family and some of her friends are of Indian descent. That's wrong. Just plain wrong.

The British Militant Party (or BMP) are for the most part extreme Nazi sympathisers who make Nazi salutes and reputedly admire and discuss Hitler and his horrific actions at their rallies.

I know they have a right to their free speech, but so do I, and they make me sick.

So, I have a dilemma - should I step back and stay at home to avoid possible suspension, injury and/or arrest, or should I head over there to stand up for what I believe in and to have a hand in preventing my country becoming overrun by tyrants in the making?

I know what I want to do, but I should be practical. I can't kick neo-nazi ass, as much as I'd love to.

I'm baby-filly, but you can call me Rhi if you must. Actually, I'd prefer Rhi to baby-filly. Up to you. :P

I have a thing about keeping my age secret - but you can have a go guessing if you want.

I live in Wales, which is a small country in the UK.

I'm a lot better at writing than I am at drawing. As evidenced by my gallery. :D

I love animals, and I have a dog called Daisy. I would love a few more animals, but Daisy is more than enough of a cuddly (fat) handful on her own.

My favourite show on TV is Mock the Week, and Frankie Boyle is my favourite comedian.

My favourite films are Memoirs of a Geisha, Crouching Tiger; Hidden Dragon, House of Flying Daggers and Little Miss Sunshine.

I speak quite a bit of Welsh and Spanish, and a little French. English is my first language, and the one I feel most comfortable writing in.

I'm a Catholic who doesn't agree with organised religion, but I do believe in a higher power. Yeah. :D

Take a look through my gallery: I'll love you forever if you comment and/or :+fav:!

Useless information fest over.

Why do I miss someone I never met?
With bated breath I lay,
Sea winds brought her to me,
A butterfly, mere one day miracle of life;
And all the poetry in the world,
Finally makes sense to me.
